A leading Ministry of Commerce official greatly praised the ongoing China Import and Export Fair for its contribution to the development of China's IPR (intellectual property rights) regulations and trade balance.
In interviews with several leading Chinese media organizations, including CCTV (China Central Television) and Xinhua News Agency, Vice-Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng said that Canton Fair has performed very well in IPR protection.
"Compared with Western countries and regions, China has taken a relatively shorter time to complete IPR regulations. And all trade partners of China have also greatly praised our efforts in IPR development," Gao said.
He indicated that Canton Fair has so far been the best example of China’s development of IPR protection.
Gao also said that the international import zone at the fair, which began yesterday in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, serves as an important platform for China to harmonize its import and export balance.
"It (establishment of the import zone) is a remarkable reform for the half century-old fair," Gao told reporters.
This is the first time that an international import zone has been set up at the event, after its name was changed to "China Import and Export Fair" last year.
"How the zone performs depends a lot on how the international market goes in the years ahead. We have attached great importance to encouraging the export of more goods from other countries and regions to China," Gao said.
"Import of goods from overseas countries and regions should be directed by the market instead of the government. We are encouraging more overseas enterprises to develop the Chinese market," said Gao. He also indicated that the Canton Fair has provided an important opportunity for overseas companies to know more about the Chinese market.
